「Meet the Artists」
Artists? Is that a typo?
It’s not a typo, we’re plural! We have dissociative identity disorder, so there’s more than one person in this head. We couldn’t tell you exactly who worked on this collection, but we know that Lolly, the host, was involved. Safe to say, it was a group effort and we couldn’t be happier with the results!
Who/What has influenced your art?
Anime! All the anime and manga we read has left a little something in our art. We love anime and manga, and it inspires us in all things. There’s just something amazing about a cartoon that doesn’t talk down to you, has an amazing art and story, and isn’t afraid to be a little absurd. We hope to create art like that! We have also been greatly influenced by DestinyBlue, one of the first artists we discovered online.
How does being plural affect your gender and sexuality?
Well, every alter in our system has their own preferences and gender identity. Lolly, our host, considers being plural as a great contributor to their gender fluidity. Alters passive influencing each other is common, and normal! Not everyone in our system experiences gender this way, though many of us are nonbinary. Collectively, we also identify as genderfluid, as every alter has their own unique gender identity and experience, just as no two singlets on this earth have the exact same experience with gender and sexuality.
Why ‘scene?’
Because we love alternative styles! Sure, we don’t have the spoons to dress that way all the time, but if we could we would! Bright colors, big hair, bold makeup, it just screams “badass!” Unfortunately, due to chronic illness and disability, the most we can manage sometimes is burshing our hair, which is always dyed. We strive to be at a place where we can be loud and proud in all things all the time. One day we will be there!
What are your biggest fears as an artist?
That we’ll become famous. We like attention but not that much LOL.
What challenges do you face as a disabled artist?
Well, energy for one thing! Being sick takes up a lot of spoons, but it won’t stop us forever. Thankfully, we’ve got a setup that works for us with our current energy level, and we’re able to get some work done. The good news is, we love art, so we can spend a little extra energy on it ;)
Any last words?
Why are you making us choose something? This is cruel and unusual punishment.
